Contemplating the Serenity Prayer at The Open Door

open door

Because people know about my interest in all things faith and worship related, I receive many invitations to participate in different religion and spirituality experiences and experiments. A good friend of mine, Dereca Blackmon and her partner in ministry, Karen Fry are starting a new community called the Open Door. You can find out more about them, here.  In honor of my friend, Dereca’s birthday, I joined their Seed Circle, inspired as always by those who have the courage to take the spiritual journey that they were called to take.

The Open Door is described as: ” is a multidimensional spiritual community. We consciously create spaces to boldly embrace the unity in diversity. We engage in inner awakenings, uncommon conversations, community action, and boundless love.” Sounds good to me!

The Open Door is launching a “virtual community class” from July 10 to July 18 on The Serenity Prayer. It is a prayer that many of us have heard and contemplated:

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
The courage to change the things I can
And the wisdom to know the difference

This prayer, I think, helps us to contemplate the practice of moving through life seeing things as they are, not simply as we want them to be. It helps us to stand up and be courageous, and have the discernment to see what represents a battle to be fought…or a reality with which to simply make peace.

I am looking forward to participating in this class, as I am all about practicing being in the world in a peaceful, graceful, yet active and impactful way. Join me as I join Open door! Registration is open now.
